5 Reasons Why You Shouldn't Buy an iPhone

Too Expensive
Is Apple kidding us? $599 for a freaking phone? Wow ... just wow.
No phone is worth that much money even if it has a few "gee whiz" and "it's neat" type features. Apple has gone way, way off the deep end this time with the price of this behemoth phone.
Why would anybody be foolish enough to pay that much for a cell phone? Are people that addicted to blabbing on the phone that they must pay $600 to do so? Sheesh, get a life people.
Do you really want to waste your money lining the pockets of Steve Jobs and his minions at Apple? Take the $599 and do something productive with it instead of wasting it on yet another over-hyped, over-priced Apple product.

Tiny Storage
Well, just as with the iPod, we can always count on Apple screwing us over with tiny amounts of storage space.
The $499 iPhone has 4 gigabytes and the $599 has 8GB. What on earth does Apple expect people to do with that tiny bit of storage space?
Think about it. The vaunted iPhone is supposed to be able to play movies as well as play songs.
Well, how many movies are you going to be able to store with just 4GB of storage space? And how many songs can you carry? That's to say nothing of your other data that you might need to tote around with you.
Apple appears to have rushed headlong into the release of the iPhone with no thought whatsoever about how starved for storage space iPhone users will soon be.
What does Jobs think is going to happen? That people will carry around a terabyte external hard disk with them to desperately try to carry their needed data?
Come off it, Steve. The minimum data storage for the $499 iPhone should have been 500 GB at the very least, with the top of the line model having at least 800 GB or preferably 1 terabyte.

Stylish and Stupid
There's no doubt about it that the iPhone looks "stylish" when you first see it. But isn't that really the problem with all of Apple's products? They look pretty, but provide very low value for the price?
Do you really want to be a loser that overpays for the iPhone just to look cool for a little while? Don't forget that no matter how "stylish" you look, sooner or later other people will have an iPhone too, and then you'll just look stupid.
Is that what you're really after? To look stupid trying to be cooler than everybody else?
Hey, you can do that without spending $600. In fact, you may have already achieved that goal just by reading this column, but I'll leave that to each reader to decide for themselves.

Edge and Not 3G
Apple's decision to go with AT&T is also costly for another reason. The iPhone apparently will be using AT&T's super-slow and crappy EDGE data service instead of 3G. Wow.
Another major screw-up by Apple. Are you willing to pay for a slow data connection on your "cool" iPhone?
Stop and think about that for a minute. You're going to be paying for a data service that might take a few minutes to load this Web page, depending on how it performs that day you use it.
Given that the iPhone is supposed to be "cutting edge," I can't imagine what Apple was thinking to release it on a service that doesn't offer 3G data transfer speeds.
It's like Apple released a Corvette that can only go up to 35 mph. What the heck is the point?

No Flash or Java Support
Flash and Java are both pretty basic parts of the Web experience. And yet Steve Jobs and his lackeys have arbitrarily decided to exclude them from the iPhone Web experience.
So much for "the Internet in your pocket" blather that Jobs was spewing earlier on. It's more like the "crippled, crappy, lame version of the Internet in your pocket" instead.
No doubt, though, that Apple's marketing department will probably put their usual spin on this and start touting the iPhone as being "Flash-free" or "Java-free" as though both things were positives instead of negatives.
And you know what? The Apple Faithful will eat it up! They'll storm out onto the Web and begin filling discussion forums and newsgroups with inane comments about how the iPhone "protects" users from evil things like Flash and Java.
I guess when you're the head of a cult, you can make people believe anything.

There many be 5 reasons not to get an iphone for $499 or $599 but there is no reason to get it for absolutely free. Here you go-

1. Sign up
2. Do the ebay offer which is free
3. Just sign up and bid or buy one thing on ebay. If you bid, you don't have to win the bid to receive credit.

Yeah, uhhh, they're selling a phone, not a high capacity portable HDD, current terrabyte storage solutions are not pocket sized, so how on earth could you reasonably expect the iPhone to contain that much?

Anonymous said...

A Terabyte of Space!?

That's impossible for a phone man! IMPOSSIBLE for something that size.

Even if it was possible, no one needs a damn TB of space on something primary a phone.

Seriously, this article is crap. Even in stationary computers, one terabyte hard drives are fairly new, and very expensive. And probably a lot bigger, warmer and noisier than an iPhone. :P

Maybe people who don't understand technology shouldn't be allowed to write about it. That's like asking an Amish guy to explain how a digital camera works.

I can't even get more than 200GB hard drive for my laptop.

This qualifies as a PDA/Phone/iPod. A good PDA costs this much these days and you don't usually get anywhere near the storage or quality and features of an iphone.

Expensive? My Nokia N93 was more and the web browsing sucks so that point makes no sense.

Tiny Storage... Again my N93 has a 2GB MMC Card but that was another $50... and in all honesty everyone that runs an ipod knows that it will be connected to your computer most nights while charging so swapping files is a breeze.

Staylist/Stupid... Obviously you enjoy typing code in some for of Linux still waiting that one day there will be a driver for well anything...

Edge vs 3G... That does suck but you dont think AT&T will upgrade the speeds in time? Soon as AT&T/Apple captures most of the market they'll slowly throttle it up the speeds.

You obviously just hate Apple... Grow up.

The full article is the top ten reasons and #1 is:

1. I Got to the Apple Store Ahead of You

If you've read this far, then you've finally discovered the *real* reason I wrote this column.

You see, I was out to dissuade as many people as possible from buying an iPhone so that I could have less competition June 29 when I went to get mine.

Yep, this entire column was nothing more than a self-serving ruse at giving myself the best chance possible to snag an iPhone on opening day.

The fewer people that are interested in the iPhone, the better were my chances at getting one! So in this column I've just regurgitated all the usual FUD about the iPhone, Apple, and AT&T in a blatant attempt to discourage you from being remotely interested in buying one.

And I want one ... make no mistake about it ... I want an iPhone ... badly!

It's all I've been able to think about for the last few days ... I've been dreaming of ditching my crappy Verizon phone and holding the sleek, sexy iPhone in the palm of my hand.

Yes ... I must have one ... and I will have one! No matter who or what gets in my way! Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeessssss ... .the precioooooooous will be ouuuuuuursssssssssss!

Listen to these apple zombies. Ohhh, the touchscreen is so cool, I want one. What pretentious losers. I want to be cool, so i will buy a over-priced phone to look important. This is a country of lock stepping losers. For me, (just like the apple slogan) Think Different!!!

you people are complete morons if you took the terabyte comment seriously. It's called sarcasm, and it seems 13 year old virgins don't get it. I have an iPhone, and it works great. I don't watch movies, but I have a few gigs of music. As for the internet, I'm not a kid... I use it for business, and it is amazing to do research and check email and send multimedia (being a designer) as quick as one can on the iPhone. So don't knock it unless you...well, have a life and/or career.

What 13 year old isn't a virgin? Also how could you expect them to know anything about HDD and TB and whatnot?

the iphone does support java...next time go to the options and you will see Turn Java On/Off. Also, iphone has youtube. That's flash for ya...

I have never liked apple. I have never purchased any of there products. Someone gave me an ipod once and I returned it and bought a Sansa mp3 player. The iphone is cool as shit though. Seriously, it's just plain cool and it works as advertised. I'll be purchasing mine in october.

u are all so lame.. no wonder u all dint grab the essence of the article and yapping around about the capacity.. jus like a true blue apple fanboy, all of who are losers

Anonymous said...

Blathering Blathers cite... Anyone who doesn't know that you can have a terabite hard drive in a phone is stupid.....you can make a 100gig sd card....and the phone is large enough to fit 500 of those in it...of course the features are so low that you could even manage that but i forgot...that apple likes to make a mockery of a computing machine. In my hand i am holding a terabite flash drive thats about the size of a credit card...what? is all that room used up for the little box inside that pops out after your warranty goes to crap that fries the entire phone?

Believe it!! Apple always has and always will be the Pathological liar of the industry

Anonymous said...

500gb? One TERABYTE!?!?? I do agree the storage capacity is definitely not enough to carry around movies and to hold your entire music collection, but the 500gb/1000gb claim is just ridiculous, have you turned retarded?

THe article was crap but the author is right. Lets deconstruct shall we?

The author has some post ironic indie tone of his writing like it's cool to criticise things. Typically glib Daria/Maddox bastard hybrid technophile in denial and blog creature.

The author could have mentioned how the overinflated price will come down in 6 months for better versions of the phone just like with iPod but at seems most consumers at least in the U.S have amnesia.

He also could've mentioned how these cheaper versions will probably be superior (yet still that special apple kind of crap) and with more whizbang what nots.

Instead the author resorts to the old tried and true formula of criticizing people of trying to be cool whilst pretending that you don't think you are the so cool because you were criticisng people who think they are cool.

The jokes were uninventive mac cliches and platitudes.

ANyways anyone who is going to buy an iphone either AT & T works for you or yeah you are a moron for using non interchangeable over priced apple crap.

I have a Dell Axim X50v with a 4GB SD card and 4GB CF card. That's 8GB of space just like the top of the line iPhone. Also, I have Windows Mobile, wifi, bluetooth, mobile Office, etc. I can play videos, browse the web, play games, organize data, give powerpoint presentations, listen to music, use TomTom navigation, use it as a universal remote, check emails in Outlook, and the list goes on and on. And as for a cellphone, I use a normal cellphone. So if you want an iPhone just for its features, why not get a PDA for half the price with way more features?

its just a weird thing, stuff like I phone is a big business. you can't afford if one person who don't have jobs right? it is just part of experience, pleasure commitment when they you have one of those.Apple like no other company where in they were just promoting what are those newly trends that might people think they can be more appreciated the idea and the promotions make a big in afact. like know Black Berry and ofcorse NOkia also before dominating in the market. Iphone knows as the makers of Ipod MP3 but let us look what kind of stuff they want to promote to us.. i believe this is just a begging to rule Apple in the bench of success in creating more impact and strong commitment with respective for those believe what service they have trying to promote.ipple is one good example having a strong commitment and giving the needs and pleasure of its consumers and buyers.
more power to Apple company..

And in picking the 5 reasons you think are the best (in my opinion, your non-objective opinion sucks) you completely destroyed the whole purpose of his article. Since you didn't include it, I'll save you the trouble of posting reason Number 1:

In essence, in case you didn't quite catch that, his reasons are mostly bullshit to keep you from getting HIS iPhone. So go ahead, follow the crowd. But keep in mind what normally happens when we decided to follow someone (KE, in this case) who often annotates anothers' to make themselves look good. "Absolutely positive evidence of WMDs in Iraq" anyone?

You wouldn't happen to be a reporter, would you Ke? Would make too much sense...
